Kurt Schwitters/Spiritus Noister
Ursonate for 2 Voices and musical environment

The well-known label Hungaroton Classic has released a new work of the Hungarian art group Spiritus Noister, formed by sound poets Katalin Ladik and Endre Szkarosi, and by experimental musicians Zsolt Kovács and Zsolt Sörés. The title of the the cd reveals an ambitious aspiration: Ursonate for 2 voices and musical environment. As one of the known London musicians, Andy Saunders observes:
"The music gruop Spiritus Noister has widened the course of their releases and concerts with a constantly developing project, which aims for the contemporary poetical-musical re-interpretation of some basic works of the classical avant-garde. As the first piece in the series, they chose Ursonate, a famous and brilliant composition by Kurt Schwitters, one of the most important avant-garde artists of 20th century. (…) The basic novelty in Spiritus Noister's current project is breaking away from the merely declamative and monological interpretation of the work: alternative meanings of Ursonate are reconsidered in a complex musical and vocal space. Staying true to the letter and spirit of the original work (…) the group adapts an entirely new approach utilizing a contemporary sound arsenal. An original and contemporary account of this great work has been developed from the wealth of possible interactions among the two sound poets and the two instrumental musicians contributing to the project."
