AKSHUN
Towards a
new communionism
Proceeding meaningfully to contradict
Each living thing is continuaily in process
We grow more if we allow ourselves the space for simply being in process
Every akshun is a performance of consciousness
In making performance akshun artwork one of the driving factors is to
produce an arena for the nurturing of community. All inclusive, not exclusive.
Intuitive integre of akshun: Honesty - behaviour that is not self-serving or manipulative.
In reaching the point of peak experience in the creative akshun (making the performance)
one must question all motivations for doing so. This is part of the cooking process. Is
this work self-serving or is this work of service to others. Is the work bringing fouth
the experience of reality or ignorance. Is it truthful or ego-centred.
Certainly one must employ methods that promote understanding. Continually cutting away at
layers to reveal the core simplicity of intention.
All akshuns are continually in process. Each performance serves as part of an ongoing
cycle. The past informs the present. The continual process of exploring, experimenting
adding, subtracting; this is the raw state, the menu - experience on the journey become
the ingredients.
All akshun is in process therefore all akshun is seen as practice; continually evolving,
moving forward. This is the raw sate of being. Through the pursuit and discipline of the
practice one must continually evaluate motivation and effect; to distinguish between
genuine and spurious.
The raw state, (the process) that evolves toward the unified (the cooked) creative
performance (the execution) is the gift of the moment of risk in akshun. The power of
no-power - the loss of self, the integration. dissolving of the awareness of self (ego) in
the creative encounter. The process of tearing oneself out of ones personality and
culture and putting oneself back again. A transcendence of the moment, an artistic akshun.
In trying to produce a cooked product that one wishes to control and repeat, defining
ones own immortality we would be creating delusion, in trying to make reality
repeatable we create suffering. (ego-orientated endeavour)
The raw process is the hidden work, the real work, that underlies and informs the creative
artistic (cooked) moment. We commune and partake of the feast remembering one never eats
the same meal twice.
Magic sometimes eludes explanation by taking sanctuary in the obvious.

Some notes on Akshun/Intervention & Live art Manifestation
Artform as intervention into socal-cultural-ritual physical reality. A journey utilising
environment. natural time, man-made, changed or impose. Live art-body - investigation the
relationship between self, history, position within world(s).
Concernd with the process than finished object. commodification or resolve.
Based in real-time not fictional. real space, not fictional. transcending as major
component. Crisis. Literainess of time, space is intrinsic.
Sound, gesture, accessories, interior exteriorisation of environment. Questioning.
Deconditioning.
The spectator, audience, may experience a different set of feelings emotions towards the
work than the artist. Each brings their own personalhistory, each is valid, there is no
exclusive truth. Inclusive, collective, community: the articulation of life rather than
illusion.
Performance can allow the spectator to live the situation through certain mechanisms set
up for the effect, changing emphasis, utilising all the senses. Performance/Akshun can be
open yet structured, each artist develops personal visual language. lndividual yet
universal. Tapping collective.
Certain points may be fixed in advance but there must be room for spontaneous akshun,
improvisation and adaptability to the moment. Satori.
Vulnerability, errors of judgment and mistakes are experienced as uniquely important.
The most successful performances tend to occur when the subjects or images are wrenched
out of context using unexpected or unfamiliar methods. They chailenge the spectators
preconceptions not only by questioning the status-quo, but by manipulating the materials
in such a way that the form becomes appropriate to the issues.
AKSHUN
Statement
The coporal entity becomes a metaphor for a series of Akshuns. A journey
that draws upon persona ised interpretation and imagination to address wider issues
Isymptoms of oppression, subversion, freedom, identity, control, process, covert
activities.
A personal observation, expression, articulation, exploration into the
hierarchical relationship of volatile opposites.
The work is a striving to create an arena via an intermediate area of
sequences that facilitate the understanding of latent needs, creativity, imaginations and
traumatic expression within an overall live activity.
Akshuns get closer to basic human facts, beyond culture, nationalism or
individualism, they start at a place that has not yet been discovered. |
